Why is water leaking from my swimming pool filter?
Usually, water leaking from your filter indicates that your filter is dirty and needs to be cleaned. You should record the pressure on your filters pressure gauge when you are sure that the filter is clean. The “rule-of-thumb” is that you can allow your filter gauge to go up 10 lbs. over the “clean” pressure.
Of course, there could be a mechanical problem with your filter. If the filter has a band that connects the two halves of the unit, it could be that the band has been improperly installed.
Suggestions for stopping a leaky pool filter:
#1. Clean the band 0-ring and lubricate
#2. Clean the groove the band fits into
#3. Clean the clamp that holds the filter together
#4. Tighten the screw mechanism that fastens the band to the filter and, most importantly:
TAP THE BAND IN ALL AREAS AS YOU TIGHTEN. IF YOU DON’T DO THIS, THE O-RING WILL BIND AND THE TANK WILL CONTINUE TO LEAK
The other possibility is that you do have a crack in your filter tank, or your filter gauge assembly may need tightening or possibly using teflon on the threads of the gauge or the assembly.
