Pool builders need more than just a truck
As a long time designer of pools and spas in the New Orleans and Mandeville areas, the one thing I’ve noticed in poor design quality is arrogance. Inexperienced builders tend to claim things like “I have over 30 years experience designing pools.” However, I’ve generally found that the builder actually has 1 year of experience repeated 30 times or they have 30 years of experience fixing a particular pool part, not thirty years of building pools.
With the evolution of design and pool innovations, it’s important for a quality designer to keep up with what’s new in order to provide a quality service.
Beware the pool company working out of a truck
The fact is, it takes more than just 1 person to build a pool. And for the smaller pool builders who are working from home or the back of their trucks with no office, no employees and no support, it’s nearly impossible to handle more than 1 thing at a time.
The danger in a person operation is that in the pool business, mistakes are costly. If y0ur builder is too busy and overlooks certain details in the pool building process, it can cost thousands of dollars to fix the problem later. This is perhaps the biggest reason that successful pool companies have trained staff members to handle different parts of the process.
What to look for
It’s best to seek out a reliable, licensed builder who can save you from potentially costly construction mistakes. Contact your local BBB to see if a builder has any unresolved issues, ask for references and check if they have any lawsuits against them (for a complete list of questions, visit Important Questions to ask your Builder.
Your builder should be qualified, experienced and have the ability to really listen to what your needs are. Once you find the builder for you, the rest should be a memorable and exciting experience.
