Winter Is a Good Time to Repair Your Pool
During the summer months, the last thing you would want is for your swimming pool to be out of commission while repairs are made. No one will be happy if they have to wait to take a dip into the water. If you decide to do repairs in the spring just before you open your pool for swimming, things could go wrong if you find out that more work is needed than expected and this will mean eating into the swimming season. So, when it comes to making repairs, winter is the best time of year. No one will be swimming, and even if the maintenance takes longer than expected, you will still have plenty of time before the first swim party of the year.
The Replaster or Refinish
There are numerous different things you may need to get done in order to keep your swimming pool at its best. For example, take a look at your pool plaster. How is it doing? Sometimes, it can become stained, worn, or damaged. If you want things to look their best again, then an acid wash may do the job, or you may even need a complete re-plaster. Since you won’t likely know which is best until you get started, it only makes sense to give plenty of time for the work to be completed. In other words, if you think all you need is an acid wash and it turns out you will need a replaster, and you waited until May, you won’t have your swimming pool ready nearly as soon as you would like. Of course, then if there turns out to be structural damages that you didn’t know about, the process would take even longer.
The Pool Equipment
Remember that the equipment you use with your pool is all mechanical. Things do wear out and go wrong. Depending on the age of your pool, it’s usually just a matter of time until you have to make some type of repair. Let’s say last summer you noticed something wasn’t working quite right. You could wait until next summer to see if it is ok, but if not then you may have to get your repairs during swimming season. Alternatively, you could get the repairs done now, during the winter. That way, no matter what needs to be done, the work will not come between you and your time in the water.
You probably do a fairly good job of keeping the pool clean during the summer months, but there are just some things you cannot get to. The winter is the perfect time to do a deep cleaning because you won’t have to worry about staying out of the water while everything gets done. Instead, when the warm months roll around, you will have a perfectly clean pool waiting for you to enjoy.
It’s even a smart idea to keep the water levels and pH balanced during the winter months when you aren’t using the pool. That way, you won’t have nearly as much work to do when you get ready for the summer.
