Top Pool Trends for 2015
Spring is right around the corner, and that means we’re just a few months away from pool season! If you’re considering putting in a pool or even upgrading your pool this year, you have a lot of options you may not have ever considered. We’re seeing a lot of really gorgeous trends in pool and deck design for 2015 that we think you’ll love.
From features and accessories to set the mood for poolside parties to modern glass tile designs, illusion spas, and really out-of-the-box designs, there’s something for everyone and every budget. Check out a few of our favorite pool trends for 2015.
Water and Fire Features
More and more people are opting for waterfalls, fountains, sconces, and grottos in their pool designs this year. These can range from natural-looking rock walls with water flowing down the side to modern metal fountain sculptures that spray water attractively into the air and into the pool. Water features add dimension and are a lot of fun, too.
But those aren’t the only features you’ll be seeing poolside this year. We absolutely adore how many fire features we’re seeing in pool deck designs for 2015. From fire pits and fireplaces to fire bowls, adding fire to your pool area gives it a warm, primal, and exciting appeal that you just can’t get with any other kind of feature.
Fire features are also great for outdoor gatherings when the weather turns a bit too brisk for swimming. You can still get everyone together for a lovely evening by the pool without getting wet, and fire features create the perfect atmosphere.
Illusion spas are actually built into the pool. Some have infinity edges and appear to rise magically out of the water, while others have stone or tile borders that give the pool’s shape an interesting aesthetic appeal. Illusion spas can’t be added after the fact to pools, though, so you’ll need to know if you want one before you choose your design and start construction.
Sloped Entries and Slot-Edge Pools
On the subject of the shape and style of the pool itself, we love the move away from traditional geometric pool shapes and the old styles of steps on one side and a ladder on the other. We’re seeing a lot of really creative alternatives to these old styles, including creatively sloped entries and slot-edged (also called knife-edged) pools.
Beach-edged sloping entries are kid-friendly, and they’re incredibly attractive, too. If you choose one of these gently sloping entries or a Baja ledge or shelf that’s set just about a foot into the water, you can also place poolside furniture in the shallows of your pool and dip your feet in while you sun yourself with a good book.
Knife-edge pools create a truly unique and clean esthetic. The water level sits flush with the edge of the pool, giving your pool deck a smooth, uncut look. This look is achieved without overflowing the pool thanks to a slot-edge around the perimeter of the pool. The effect is absolutely breathtaking.
Finally, we love the current trend with natural pools. They blend in with the natural features of your backyard and look like the idyllic ponds and swimming holes that you only dreamed of in your youth. These pools are also very eco-friendly, as they rely on their own ecosystem and plant-life to clean the water instead of chlorine or saltwater. If you’re considering a new pool, this is a great option to look into.
All of these trends are both beautiful and functional. They all create a gorgeous atmosphere and a lot of fun all summer long.
