10 Tips for the Best Pool Party Ever: 2016 Edition
Now that summer is just around the corner, it’s time to make the most of the jewel of your outdoor space: your swimming pool.
There’s simply nothing better to do than cooling down on a hot afternoon than hanging by the pool! Here’s our tips to draw everyone to your backyard, even those hard-to-please teens!
You can have an impromptu pool party for no reason at all than to have fun and spend more quality time with family and friends. And to liven things up, here are a couple of fun ideas that take your pool fun up a notch:
Get new suits
What’s better than taking a dip in your pool? Inviting your girlfriends to hit the shops for brand new suits! The latest swim suit trends this season have something for every body type.
You can choose a cut-out bikini if you want to show off skin in a subtle way. You can choose an off-the-shoulder silhouette with tiny puff sleeves to show off your femininity.
Or you can choose a minimalist maillot that is uniquely utilitarian and functional. If you have kids, even better, take them along and get new suits for the whole family!
Music sets the mood
Having the right soundtrack playing in the background is essential for an awesome pool party. You need upbeat fun music that goes along with a day playing the water.
Listening to the radio, you never know what you are going to get; slow songs and endless ads are a real drag. So do some pre-planning and put together some rockin’ tunes; bonus points for streaming them through a new Bluetooth waterproof speaker!
Protect your skin
Melanoma is a deadly kind of skin cancer caused by prolonged exposure under the sun. To prevent this, you need to put on some sunscreen both on your face and your body.
Encourage your guests to do the same before they take a dip in your pool. Make sure that the sunscreen you use has an SPF of at least 30 and that it is the broad spectrum kind, which protects the skin from both UVA and UVB rays.
Placing ample supplies of sunscreen near the towels will remind kids and adults alike to reapply!
Have some shade
While sunshine is usually the hallmark of pool parties, you need to exercise caution when it comes to prolonged sun exposure. Install shade sails over the pool, or put pool umbrellas near the water.
Make the shade more inviting by placing comfy lounge areas inside the patio so that your guests can take a break from being in the water and sun if they want to.
Try poolside rock climbing
Why not install a poolside rock climbing wall for your party? The slippery surface and wet hands add a twist to this climbing challenge.
Did we mention there is no rope or harness to this contraption? If you fall, the wall is tilted so you fall into the pool!
Get a volleyball set
Enjoy a great workout by putting up a water volleyball set in the pool. Rest assured that your guests will have a ball!
Take your game in the water
Just about every game is in the water now! A big hit this year has been the floating table tennis set up. But if you’d rather play alone, there’s always golf!
No need for expensive golf equipment when you can get a floating golf green! You can practice your swing and chipping skills right in your own backyard.
Have fun competitions to see who can get a hole in one! Make sure no one is swimming in the ‘green’ before trying this one out.
Throw an in-pool cocktail party
Prepare drinks ahead of time, and place ‘stations’ around the pool area for hassle-free entertaining.
Sangria, frozen margarita, and piña colada are always a hit during pool parties, and a unleaded version will keep kids in the loop too!
Try floating beer pong
If you are running out of ideas on how you will serve your drinks, why not bring a new element of difficulty to an old game with a floating beer pong table in the pool?
Bring out your stash of red solo cups and pour in cheap beer for an epic tournament your guests will love!
Keep this one for the end of the weekend though, your pool will need a few days to cycle out any spilled beer.
Try some new pool floats
There are plenty of ingenious pool toys that your guests can use such as the classic noodles, floating lounges, inflatable donuts and pretzel floats. You can also buy one of those cute single pizza slice floats, or buy eight pieces to complete a whole pizza pie!
You can even turn your pool into a living room with an aqua sofa, complete with a luxurious fabric top and pillows to match!
Why not make the most of your pool this summer, by trying out some of these fun new ideas. You can even try a different theme each weekend, from a pool volleyball tournament one week, to beer pong the next. Your backyard is sure to be a hit!
