Why Saltwater Pools Are Making Waves
There is nothing more refreshing on a hot, summer day than taking a swim. However, a chlorinated pool can be irritating and burdensome. Saltwater pools are becoming increasingly popular, requiring less chemicals to be added to the water and leaving swimmers happier and healthier.
Lower Chlorine Levels
In order to keep a pool bacteria-free, a certain level of chlorine is needed. In freshwater pools, highly concentrated chlorine tablets must be added regularly. It can be difficult to regulate a steady and safe level of chlorine. In saltwater pools, the final concentration of saltwater will be very low, not even enough to taste, but enough to make the water feel softer and silkier. The resulting water is much easier on the eyes, skin, hair and swimsuits, plus swimmers aren’t exposed to extra chemical loads.
Although there is less day-to-day maintenance with saltwater pools, they do require one additional piece of equipment, a chlorine generator. A chlorine generator uses common table salt to produce all the chlorine a pool needs so you don’t have to buy, store, or handle it. The chlorine is then automatically distributed to your pool, sanitizing your water by eliminating biological and bacterial growth.
Save Money with Salt
The addition of the chlorine generator will add to the initial cost and also increase electricity used. However, the price of salt compared to chlorine and other chemicals is a savings of 2 to 4 times less – a savings you’ll see over time. The way the system works is that when the chlorine breaks down, it becomes salt again. So any salt added to the pool that is not consumed, is continually recycled. Salt doesn’t have to be added often and most chlorine generators will clearly indicate when more salt is needed right on the unit.
If you love to swim, but dislike chlorine and other chemicals, why not give saltwater a try! The chlorine generator makes owning a pool less tedious and offers a safer alternative for you and your family!
