Hiding Pool Equipment with Landscaping
There’s no need to let unsightly pool equipment ruin a backyard’s decor. Here’s how to disguise and hide equipment with landscaping.
There’s nothing more exciting than setting up a new pool. But, it can also be disappointing when the necessary pool equipment doesn’t mix with the yard’s aesthetic. Here’s how we recommend disguising pool equipment with landscaping.
Play With Plants
One of the easiest ways to disguise pool equipment is with large plants. Bushing plants found around South Louisiana such as Japanese holly, boxwoods, or daisy bushes can give homeowners a simple disguise that also beautifies the yard. Also, most palm varieties thrive in the climate here in New Orleans and are an attractive option for hidings pumps, filters, and machinery while also adding a tropical vibe. Homeowners can also use trellises to create a “wall” of plants to hide equipment. Coral honeysuckle and yellow jessamine are great options for trellises or lattices. For climbing vines that adhere directly to more solid structures like a brick wall, go with creeping fig vines.
Avoid These Plants
Plants are a simple and eco-friendly way to disguise pool equipment, but there are some plants to be avoided. Thorny or irritating plants should be dodged as they can quickly ruin swimmers’ experiences. Don’t plant any large trees that have strong, sprawling roots, such as our native live oaks, as they can destroy pool renovations from the bottom up. Also, their falling leaves will make skimming the pool a constant chore.
Try Using Enclosures
Even without a green thumb, it’s simple to disguise pool equipment. Simply use an enclosure to keep unsightly equipment out of view, whether it’s as simple as a flip-top box or a complete walk-in shed. It’s also a great way to use color to tie the pool design and yard decor together. Just make sure whatever enclosure is chosen is inexpensive and durable.
