Freeform Lagoon Pools Offer a Natural Landscape
Because of the climate, swimming pools have obvious appeal to metro New Orleans homeowners. Not everyone wants a formal or square swimming pool in their backyard. Particularly if the space in which the swimming pool is going to be installed has been carefully created to offer a very natural and relaxing environment, freeform lagoon swimming pools make good sense from a design standpoint.
A freeform lagoon swimming pool is designed to have a very natural feeling to it. Rather than having the traditionally sharp angles that swimming pools are traditionally constructed with, these swimming pools tend toward rounded edges and, quite often, those edges are not designed to be completely symmetrical between one side and the next. This gives the feeling of a small swimming hole or an island lagoon (thus the name).
These swimming pools can also be designed in a way that allows them to flow around existing landscape features. For instance, some New Orleans homeowners have very ornate gardens in their backyard, which is appropriate, given the climate. Rather than having to redesign the entire backyard around the swimming pool, a good swimming pool contractor can design the swimming pool around the yard. For instance, the swimming pool could bend around landscape features, creating a swimming area where there are curves and portions that branch out from the main body of the pool where swimmers can relax and enjoy themselves.
A freeform lagoon pool can be greatly enhanced by adding features within the pool itself. For instance, many of them have waterfalls that are either installed within the pool or on the side of it, and these have several attractive elements and goes very well with sophisticated gardening. The other benefit of a waterfall is in terms of the sound it makes. The sound of running water can be very relaxing and create a great place to unwind without having to listen to the sounds of the city.
Other optional features might include lighting or even remote equipment to control pumps and waterflow.
Tile and stone work can be used to create a particular theme for a lagoon swimming pool. For instance, if your home has very lush landscaping in the area where the pool has been installed, it’s easy to create a tropical feel by having the swimming pool bend and curve around that landscaping. This allows for shaded areas and, at night, the experience of swimming in tropical lagoon without any of the hazards that go along with that activity in an actual lagoon.
For very stately homes, stonework can be used to create a timeless feel, with statuary along the edges of the pool and other features that give it a very opulent and elegant look. There are really no limitations on how the design of these pools can be used to emphasize a feature of a landscape or a home or to reinvent the look altogether.
Some of the very simple swimming pools you’ll see that were installed many years ago look the way they do because of the limitations on the materials and the techniques that apply at the time. With today’s tools and techniques, our pool designers can create very organic curves and lines in the construction of a swimming pool, vastly expanding the capabilities of the homeowner to get creative with their designs.
